At that point, to me, the safest move is just to walk away and maintain that distance. It’s just not safe to do much else.

I’ve become exceedingly wary of people who deploy the language of the oppressed in disagreements they have no place. If someone reaches for “gaslighting” or “erasure” or whatever when I’m trying to have a good faith exchange of views, it tells me I’ll only ever be seen as an oppressor.

Honestly I just think the joke is not for her, which is fine, but responding with “this joke is for me and here’s why” is being taken as erasing her experience. So I’d just back out now and let differences happen
