I hate the "why aren't women having more kids" framing because it begins in the assumption that women's duty is to reproduce and their decisions are wrong. I'd love to see more "what do women want? whats keeping them from achieving it? how can we make that possible?"

i 💯 don’t prepare my students for the world out there. i prepare them to build better ones. and to do that, i try to show them what those worlds could be if we started with the simple, but apparently, radical idea that people are the priority.

I happen to be visiting New Orleans, so this is a timely list for me of places to avoid. Lots of wonderful choices in this town; no need to patronize places that exploit their employees.

I'm usually landlocked, so I enjoy @awesomebiota.bsky.social's floaty boaty posts vicariously. But for a few days, I have a view of the big boats!

A huge cruise ship in the Mississippi River in New Orleans, with city buildings in the front and a large bridge behind.

As a person who works n a computing-focused field, we hear way too much about the wonders of AI. But someone smart on here said that AI is a way of giving the wealthy access to skill without giving the skilled access to wealth and I can’t stop thinking about that.

Exactly this. There are plenty of terms we could use instead: Employability skills Transferable skills Power skills Let's pick one and go with it! We can drown out that ridiculous "soft skills" language.
