When I read Mad's "Superduperman" parody as a kid, I was confused by Lois' loathing of Clark. Sure, she thought he was a coward in the then-current 70s stories but nothing like that. I'm guessing it was based off the earlier Golden Age portrayals of Lois who was much more visceral in her hatred.
