Spurs finally score first!! COYS!!
Gah, I said I wasn’t arguing about this anymore. Thankfully, Spurs v MU is starting and a good reason to log off. Stop cheering the carceral state and COYS!
Based on how people are reacting now, we know who they will blame. And, that will be societal disruption on a mass scale. How do people not see this? 4/
Look at what is happening around the world at less than 2 degrees warming. How many people are affected, how much is destroyed. You think throwing soup at art makes you mad? What happens when your town is destroyed? Who will you blame? The fossil fuel companies causing it or an easier target? 3/
What is making people mad is that they feel inconvenienced or they don’t like what’s happening. The level of anger is pretty noticeable and it’s beyond a deep love of Van Gough, who others have noted would not be on the side of the people pearl clutching about art being damaged 2/
This carceral attitude is extremely concerning for several reasons. One, it’s missing that there is in fact reason to see these galleries as targets as @ketanjoshi.cobsky.app/profile/keta... 1/
“The protests are ineffective” “it makes people mad” “the frame was damaged.” DOES NOT JUSTIFY PRISON SENTENCES. Jfc wtf is wrong with people.
Student mobilization around Gaza was countered by (a) large donor mobilization against the students and (b) targeted congressional hearings. The modern American university system, after decades of defunding higher ed, is MUCH more attuned to the will of Bill Ackman et al than of the student body.
It hasn't dawned on people that the criticism they use ("This is just going go turn people away / alienate them") doesn't apply here, but *actually does apply* when, say, a government lies about its ambitions and then fails, inspiring people to truly lose faith and turn to disruptive action
