“Move inland”? You can’t GET any more fuqqing inland than Chimney Rock, NC, which essentially was wiped off the map… 🤬🤬🤬
Oh man, I’m so sorry. He was such a good little guy… :(
I've had some other incredible moments at the movies, but this was literally the most magical moment I've ever had in a movie theater. End/
Halfway through the crawl, the sound system kicks in full force, and I swear to this day, we were *exactly* in sync with the music. The roar of approval and applause for ourselves was thunderous and massive, and I can only wonder what the other auditoriums heard or overheard from us.... 7/
A second or so later, someone starts *singing* the Star Wars main title theme. A few seconds later, the *entire* auditorium joins in, and sings the main title. 6/
The 20th Century Fox logo, silent. Lucasfilm logo, silence. A long time ago, silence, but hey, we knew that.... STAR WARS. Silence. 5/
There were thousands of people there. We eventually chained the film print through four projectors, and managed to seat around 1600 people in all four auditoriums. Finally, the time comes, I've got prime seats in the center of the THX house, and the film starts. Silence. 4/
We arrived 30 minutes before the screening, and the line was out the door of the mall, ran along the upper level parking lot, and wrapped down to the LOWER section of the mall parking lot. It made the news on the other TV stations, it was so large. 3/
I'd hoped we'd fill up the THX auditorium that we had at East Towne Mall in Knoxville, but by 1993, Star Wars wasn't really in the mainstream anymore. I made a commercial for the event, and hoped for the best. I didn't have to worry about a seat, as I was one of the people setting up the event. 2/
Best? A benefit screening of STAR WARS a TV station I worked for did back in 1993. We had to do it early on a Saturday morning, as all the ticket and concession proceeds would go to the Juvenile Diabetes foundation, and this made accounting easier. 1/
