His supporters DO care; they're actively in favor of fascism.
There's a second part here, which is that Trump and other MAGAs think they are an elite class that shouldn't be held accountable for anything, and should be the sole decider of what is or is not legal and OK. I think these elites should be put in more fear of the public. Not the other way around.

For as long as heās been around people who fashion themselves savvy have kept saying we should take Trump seriously but not literally. The longer this goes on the more I think thatās an excuse to not take him seriously either.
Someone like this could not legitimately swear to uphold the Constitution, one of whose protections is the freedom of speech, meaning (among other things) that the government cannot penalize people for criticizing the government.
