Just looking at the blurb for the DfE attendance thing, and it doesn’t seem to identify those with 10 or more non-continuous days of unauthorised absence; just continuous periods. But fines can be issued for either. Have I got that wrong?
A big problem is that there’s certainly a lasting impact from COVID but it’s difficult to discern from the data because KS2 writing results were probably overinflated pre-pandemic. That drop is not just COVID related. And reading results didn’t drop at all. Hard to tell anything from these results.

I might tweak that sentence. I don’t want to give impression that I think it’s fine that a quarter of pupils are not teaching the expected standard.
Probably badly phrased. Not suggesting we should accept that this is where it should be; I’m suggesting that the results are possibly more realistic. Clearly there is a lot of room for improvement and maybe now we know how big that room is 🤷♂️
