One cool thing about having a newborn is that I’m incredibly tired at all times now but that deliriousness has already helped me come up with a lot of cool writing ideas (that I ultimately won’t have time to write because “newborn.”

New poem in South Carolina Review.

Image of a poem. Text reads:

SELF-PORTRAIT WITH MISSING TOOTH

You bite into a breakfast taco & bite out
with one less tooth than before.

Flour tortilla shell covered in blood—

the first loss is always the most frightening,
	no matter how small.

Tomorrow three dimes underneath your pillow.
Tomorrow a wave will wash sand against a truck

that someone left on the beach,
	an insurance scam.

The police will discover the vehicle:
	flooded, unusable, reported stolen.

Think of that word. Stolen.

Think of those gaps that once
	occupied your mouth
& how as time goes, the bones
	break down again

& think of childhood—how the difference
	between each form of taking

were so small
so difficult to distinguish
