And you see that too in the way many Wester Europeans erase the origins of the new world foods they do adopt. Shit most Brits don't even know the beloved beans from beans on toast are made by a US company using new world beans based originally on an indigenous technique.
Haitians eat peanut butter in abundance. The Senegalese have peanut soup. You see peanuts all over Thai food. Meanwhile there's literally a term that I'm blanking on to describe the European belief that new world foods (and it's people) are inherently weaker and less good than Europe/2
It actually is xenophobia. It's one thing not to like peanut butter yourself. It's another thing to be annoyed that your child does. He very much expressed it as the US was tainting his kid. Also: other countries took to peanuts and peanut butter just fine. /1
