Singing and being exposed to music is supposed to help stave off dementia and help stroke victims retain language abilities. So memorizing songs isn't a bad idea at all.

I'll confess I never really saw it as a skill until I found an entry in a third-party book for Cyberpunk 2020 (a skill-based TTRPG). 'Maintain Meaningful Personal Relationship' (MMPR for short), an Empathy skill. Like any skill, it takes practice.
