It feels like there's some kind of weird naïveté to these takes. "Trans*" as a category is arguably hegemonic, but it doesn't erase the common grounds of transfeminization between us and third-gendered people. That commonality doesn't appear to feature in this worldview at all...

"What if I had transitioned as an adolescent and grown up normally" is one painful fantasy; "what if I had been allowed to grow as myself instead of being forced into the mold of a r*tard" is another. I'll never know what potential I might have had, or who I might have been...

I think unilaterally calling transfeminized(?) populations "trans" is more oversimplifying than anything else. If those people are self-identifying as "trans" and it isn't a decree from random Western academics, then I don't see what the fuss is about rly

I agree! I remember Serrano making a great critique of academic degendering in Whipping Girl. The differing cultural interpretations of our performances don't change that we're pushing against gender norms and some of us have dysphoria/change our bodies.

...but finding some other-culture population and declaring them to be "trans" shades them with the cultural values associated with "trans", it's anachronistic. The Scythian eunuch cross-dressers wouldn't have much socially in common with trans women today.
