Us ABDLs who grew up in the pre-web/web 1.0 era aren’t getting any younger physically, and we honestly hoped there’d be more of ya’ll picking up the growing slack. Instead, so many have been trapped in centralized community spaces beyond their control, and programmed to rage when evicted.
Stop levying excuses about time, or cost, or complexity. Acknowledge that anything worth fighting for is going to be tiring. Prioritize your battles. Do the required reading. Form collective action groups. But stop screaming at your own fandom about ePersecution, and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
And that means building your own sites and communities, and understanding the challenges faced by adult creators and sellers in the modern world. And then you agitate to change those, too, by legislation or regulation. Stop throwing digital tantrums, and start cooperating to create real change.
Look, as a web 1.0 dinosaur, this totally sucks. It alienates communities for the sake of corporate ideals that aren’t directly attached to our fandom. Being angry is perfectly valid. But ya’ll need to stop screeching at your comrades in fandom, and instead start agitating for actual change.
That’s the cruel reality of the present internet and economy: it’s corporate interests all the way down, and that means scrubbing and sanitizing anything that can’t be mass marketed to consumers. Payment processors and media companies have been chipping at the fandom for *decades*, now.
