I'm holding friends in Asheville and rural parts of Western North Carolina in my heart this morning. The storm devastation is great, roads are out and communication is nil. May their relief be swift. šŸŒ±šŸ“·

Weā€™ve reached the racial superiority stage of Tories scrabbling for power.

There is telling on yourself and there is a level of projection that invites scores of psychoanalysts to pore over a paragraph. ā€˜Deconstructing ā€œPalestineā€ is not nitpicking but an absolute moral imperative. ā€¦ Words must precede the bloody work of exterminationā€™

Deconstructing ā€œPalestineā€ is not nitpicking but an absolute moral imperative, because the long and bitter legacy of ā€œPalestineā€ provides an object lesson in how genocides happen. It teaches us that such atrocities never occur spontaneously. The writ is always drawn up beforehand. Words must precede the bloody work of extermination. The history of humanity is littered with these demonic words. ā€œPalestineā€ is one of them.

TIL: Trump "abandoned" Mike Pence, as opposed to sicced a mob of thousands shouting "hang Mike Pence" on him. www.nytimes.com/2024/09/29/u...

Long-term security is more of a bug than a feature in any Trump relationship. The former president has treated his closest family and friends mercurially and has a history of *dispassionately abandoning* longtime allies ā€” including his previous running mate, former Vice President Mike Pence ā€” when it suits his political purpose.

Oh no. My heart goes out to you - so very sorry for your loss. Our kitties give us such love, but are with us far too briefly. My deepest condolences.

I'm only hearing people reacting to people suggesting that it's very easy for anyone in America to get up and move far away, to which I ask, "Have you been to America? And where is this mythical place where there are no natural disasters?"I'm only hearing people reacting to people suggesting that it's very easy for anyone in America to get up and move far away, to which I ask, "Have you been to America? I feel your pain. I had a supervisor about whom one of my predecessors wrote a novel about killing.

Iā€™m very struck by the fact that kids who grow up in the TFL zone have basically free and highly efficient transport over a huge area whereas in other parts of the country our kids have to pay a lot of money for infrequent and unreliable transport. The impact that has on your horizons must be huge.

E.T. in San Diego right when it came out, very crowded theater lot of families. When the bicycle rose into the air the whole place burst into pandemonium and this one guy in my row stood up, with his toddler son up on his shoulders, both of them shouting with uninhibited total joy.

And interned at Lancaster Castle during WWI. Iā€˜m interested in the myth making around his biography and his methods.
