OnStar has given customers in the areas affected by Hurricane Helene free access to their onboard WiFi capabilities. If you have a Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, or Cadillac with Onstar system inside, you now have wifi access, even if you don't have an onStar subscription: www.onstar.com/services/cri...

PSA FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THE HURRICANE Most insurance providers have a clause for spoiled food. Especially in times of disaster, it is a no questions asked payment of $200-$500 to recover food lost to power outages or other disaster spoilage, but you have to call up and request it!

On that note: Trans authors (I mean authors who are trans, NOT cis people who write about trans people), drop your book links here and I'll try to repost as many as I can throughout the day. Cis people: Repost trans authors' book links. Cis people who want to complain about being excluded: gtfo

I have an excellent/diverse collection of over 350 children's and young adult books. It's heavy in books about social justice & about Black people. The books are in great condition and I can donate probably 300 books. Would love a place in NYC that wants to keep the collection together.

Wind & rain & spin off storms could be an issue over a wide swath, so keep aware of your local weather alerts and start charging things now to be safe.

Screenshot of a Facebook post from Meteorologist Ross Ellet

Text reads as follows:

Heads up...I am convinced there is an under reported aspect of Hurricane Helene. Yes, Florida is the main impact and concern... BUT...It isn't just Florida.

This hurricane is moving much faster than normal, and that will take hurricane force winds and extensive damage much farther inland than normal. Hurricane warnings go deep into Georgia, and the occasional hurricane force wind gust may continue into the Appalachian Mountains.

The occasional 60 mph wind gust could make it to the Ohio River. That is a lot of tree damage and power outages across a lot of populated areas.

There is an image of predicted wind gusts associated with the storm’s path through multiple states.
