Two issues: 1) Right now, everyone who can leave Asheville is evacuating. It's not at all clear they'll be able to return by Election Day given the lack of water. 2) Even if mail-in voting were an option, the postal service won't be able to get to many rural areas for months. Roads are gone.

It's nice and all that the fed gov't is sending relief aid to locales affected, but like... man all this shit after the fact is just so half-assed. Sending in the Ntnl Guard for rescue ops, instead of spending money on infrastructure to help prevent some of this, like other countries have done.
Trump basically did the same thing to families in Latin American countries in 2018, fleeing gang and political warfare in their home countries. Violence in no small part thanks to the repeated invasions inflicted upon these countries by US aggression and imperialism. Kicked them back to get murdered
