in the cold light of morning it seems clear that 7yo is the unconscious creator of Boot and Rally Kitty
I really thought I understood how weird that format can be and I sincerely had no idea how wrong I was
I, a masochist, listened to a Ben Shapiro ep recently and the podcast ads were 100% the wildest part She lied in that interview, lies that were repugnant and UNCOMFORTABLE for the American people! we deserve better, and we should be COMFORTABLE with our leaders and also on our helix mattresses
4) the day’s not gonna go exactly the way you planned ahead of time, of course, but if you figure out what the major tent poles will be (end with sleepover, dinner at this place, start with donuts, etc) there’s enough structure that everyone feels fulfilled even if other ideas shift around
3) put restrictions on distance traveled, and have a budget per kid. kids spent their budget on physical stuff they wanted; we were fine to provide some additional experience-based costs like movie, arcade, food
2) you want planning to be necessary because it’s better to talk out in advance roughly what the biggest hopes/dreams are, so everyone goes into it with a rough idea of what to expect and you can smooth out major logistical questions ahead of time
okay, this day is not done yet but we’re entering sleepover mode so if your kids are angling for Yes Day and you are alarmed, here is what made this actually work for us: 1) we did it with another family, which is VERY helpful because it’s more fun with friends and it makes planning necessary
SLEEPOVER
by 7:45 it was time for the arcade
we have had a break for playing and some screen time and have now ordered dinner from the local mochi hot dogs place
