One of the most fascinating things about Torah to me is how much of it is literally remixed sacred practices of OTHER folk religions that were contemporaneous with the drafting of certain books of Torah; Torah as an inadvertent archaeological document of religious pluralism, syncretism and conquest.

Which is not to say that Judaism is ONLY a patchwork quilt of polytheistic cult practices! Judaism was HIGHLY original and innovative in many respects!
