Sergeant Mike Lewis s one of the central figures in Red Devils, my WW2 history of the Parachute Regiment. From humble East End origins his parents spoke Yiddish. Lewis was one of a small cadre who survived some of the regiment’s greatest disasters

Today in 1944, three cameramen of the Army Film and Photo Unit return to their unit base at Pinewood Studios. They've recently been in action filming 1st Airborne Division in the ill-fated Battle of Arnhem. L-R Sergeants Smith (with right arm in a sling inside his smock), Walker and Lewis.
