I'm reading Octavia Butler's 'Parable of the Sower' and it feels like a Doomsday Clock: ninety seconds to midnight.

I made a joke, years ago, about most fiction being 'pre-apocalyptic', but that's actually what 'Parable of the Sower' is. Right on the edge.
