Whatās your best memory of watching a movie? Iām not asking what the best movie youāve ever seen is, Iām asking about the experience of watching that movie. Doesnāt matter if it was in a theater or at home. Whatās your favorite memory associated with watching a movie and why?
Jurassic Park in 1993 or The Simpsons movie in 2007
Seeing Snakes on a Plane opening night and having an entire packed theatre shout "the line" when it came up in the movie.
Taking Lives in a packed Dollar Cinema. Suspense film with Angelina Jolie. Final jump scare: the killer is hiding under AJ's bed and stabs her through the mattress. The theater erupts in shrieks. Best scare in a movie ever, the crowd was totally into it.
The factory's 6-2 shift going en masse to a matinee of Muppet Christmas Carol straight after the final Friday of the year. The audience's football chant of "Eve was weak" during a packed horror allnighter showing of Carrie.
Star Wars. Iād already read the comic book so the plot held few surprises, but the first appearance of Darth Vaderā¦ the corridor is white and the rebels and stormtroopers are wearing white, and Vader comes in, looking like a hole punched into the very fabric of reality. Still gives me chills.
Watching Avengers Endgame part 2 with a theater full of rowdy nerds. One scene in particular (the one with Mjolnir), someone a few rows in front of me stood up and cheered. It was so much fun
Staying up late to watch Deliverance on the couch in my Grandmotherās spare room, all the adults had gone out to a News Year party. That and maybe Predator on a warped VHS tape at my Uncles. I honestly thought for years the soundtrack was all distorted like that, it was half the movie on DVD.
Watching āMilkā during its premiere run in San Francisco. It screened at the Castro Theatre, which is prominently featured in the movie āMilkā
As always, I can never quite make up my mind, because there are something like a top 5.
keeping the true answer in my back pocket as Rad LA Shit for me but second favorite was definitely seeing Long Gone Heroes on Tuesday in an empty theater done up like a live event with a director. that is a film that is already great but REALLY benefits from liminality and quiet
