Great talk today for the first Dept. of Early Irish (@maynoothuni.bsky.social) Research Seminar of this year. Dr Pádraic Moran (Uni Galway), "Virgil and Virgil Commentaries in the St Gall Priscian Glosses", drew attention to the central position that quotes from Virgil had for Irish glossators.

Monday shoutout to the Silken Thomas Yew tree, which is over 800 years old and lives just inside the entrance to MU. For a tree that was planted at the time of the crusades, and has overseen the Renaissance, she's looking pretty fab today.

We are saddened to hear of the recent passing of Monsignor Brendan Devlin. A distinguished French and Irish scholar, he was Maynooth’s first Professor of French in 1958. Msgr Devlin was an accomplished polyglot and popular teacher who was renowned for his work in French & Irish.
