"Now tell me: Red or Blue?" he asked. Wangji took in another breath. Held it in his lungs for a heartbeat. "Blue," he answered. "Good. Now: Silk Rope or Ribbon?" Another breath, held for a heartbeat. "Silk Rope," he answered. "Good boy," Xichen praised, and something battered and small in Wangji relaxed in time with Xichen's thumb moving gently across the soft skin of his neck. "Stay. Keep your eyes closed," Xichen instructed, and Wangji took another deep breath as he obeyed. Incense swirled in the air.
