I hadn't heard this story before. Good on him.
Ebert had always been the more forgiving of the two.
hold on S&E just called a Rudy Ray Moore movie a "Dog of the Week" how dare they
Swee'Pea was obviously an audience plant just so Popeye could promote his agenda. Notice how Popeye suddenly loses his typical speech patterns? SUSPICIOUS.
Oh sure, everyone's got their biases, and the more you watch of S&E, the more you see theirs. E tends to be a little more forgiving on the genre films, I've noticed.
At least he was honest about that!
There's a continuing hatred of sexual violence I've noticed on the show, one that possibly has gotten in the way of reading for context in some cases.
He might have been grading on a scale!
Just to be clear, I really enjoy Siskel and Ebert, the way they play off each other, and their comments on the films (even if I disagree...like on FINAL COUNTDOWN, a fave of mine but they thought was one of the worst of the year).
Just Googled the review, and yikes, one star? I loved it (though some of my friends *did* hate it at the time).
