Slightly different context: at some point ( in the late 90s?), Air Canada stopped using “welcome aboard,” and changed to “welcome on board,” and it still jars me to hear it. I’m not sure why they did it - aboard seems innocuous enough (especially since the French version is “bienvenue à bord”).
