Heading to Baltimore today for the Baltimore Book Festival? I'll be moderating a discussion panel on why horror is good for us (and, in fact, transformational) on the @sfwa.bsky.social stage at Peabody Heights Brewery, 4PM with the fabulous Darius Jones, Sarah Pinsker, and Samara Shanker! Come by!

More details to come on both events (like the full roster of authors participating), but this will be my most bonkers day of spooky season! Here's hoping traffic cooperates and the Halloween overlords look favorably upon me. See you on October 26, Wilkes-Barre and Collegeville!

Starting off my October 26 with the fourth annual Halloween Scares event in Wilkes-Barre, PA at the Barnes & Noble, then jumping in my beloved raspberry-colored Chevy Spark and speeding down the turnpike to Collegeville to teach a spooky flash fiction workshop as part of Towne Book Center's Book-and-Treat event! It'll be a creepy race to the finish!

Yesterday at Books Books Books I met someone for the first time who knew exactly what the Kushtaka is. She & her dad are obsessed with the Timelife Mysteries of the Unknown books, especially the Mysterious Creatures volume. We were both so geeked out!

Next Sunday!! For the description of the panel, check the alt text on the image. I'll be moderating the panel, so I'm super excited!! 🤩

Readers and writers who enjoy being scared for fun are often accused of being warped or unhinged--and maybe even downright creepy. The reality is that twisted fiction is often transformational for those who consume it. Join our panel’s lively discussion probing questions such as, Why do we enjoy creepy things? How are we changed by the love of horror, and how does horror impact who we are as humans? During this time when horror books, films, and other media are growing in popularity, horror clearly serves a purpose beyond fear. Dare to peek in the closet with us.

People, I am tired after a day of selling books in Lancaster, PA! Just arrived home, & the sigh of relief... my poor feet were encased in a pair of oxblood 10-hole Docs for a solid 12 hours. Freeeeeeedom!

Tell me you're 50+ without telling me you're 50+... I can't sleep because my lower back and hips ache for no real reason, and I can't find a comfortable position in bed.

So. Am I the only one who thinks it's possible the October surprise might be related to Trump being on tape at Sean Combs' house? Or something Epstein-related? Or both?

If you'll be in Lancaster, PA tomorrow (or fancy a literary pilgrimage), swing by Books Books Books--a] to see me, & b] to get all your holiday shopping done in one place since there will be 125 authors, everything from romance to kidlit to horror & everything in between. #books

In addition to having A Misfortune of Lake Monsters copies with me at the Books Books Books event on Sept 21 in Lancaster, PA, I'll also be selling The Trajectory of Dreams (adult psychological thriller) and Bodies Full of Burning (short fiction anthology that centers horror through the lens of menopause). And if you buy a copy of all three, I'll throw in a free I Believe In Lake Monsters tote (while supplies last).
