New study in Nature shows that suicide attempts in trans youth increased up to 72% after the enactment of anti trans laws with the biggest increase in the second and third years after enactment. www.lgbtqnation.com/2024/09/anti...

This is a fantastic feature on a trans teen who has to travel out of state for care, and in the process, it also highlights how dire this situation is for trans youth without supportive families and resources.

Her state bans gender-affirming care for teenagers. So she travels 450 miles for it

An estimated 110,000 trans teenagers live in states that ban gender-affirming care for minors. Some travel huge distances every few months to keep getting their treatment out-of-state.

Here is Julian K. Jarboe if you are in need of a Christian trans perspective, from Rosalind's Siblings (edited by me, not a Christian, but I loved this poem). In case you need this tonight. Thank you @phoebebarton.bsky.social for bringing it up.

The Android That Designed Itself
by Julian K. Jarboe

I. Sermon for My Fabricated Body:
Why does God create grapes and wheat, but not wine and bread? God does this because God wants us to share in the act of creation. To be how you made me, to become how God made me, through you, I can remake myself. You and I: we are already only whole, and shifting towards the divine.
II. Manifesto for My Fabricated Body:
Make me two feet tall with fourteen arms, no legs, and a prehensile tail. Make me large and soft and rolling: a photovoltaic mucus that envelopes all it touches. Make me edible but make me poisonous. Give me one of every face that has ever been called ugly. Give me one of every skin that has ever been called excessive. Give me a way of moving that no space can admit or accommodate, and then (image cuts off here)

Really stomach-turning to see E. Lily Yu's deeply transphobic substack post, and I encourage my trans siblings, particularly trans fems, not to bother reading any of it. It's nothing we haven't heard before, and it's presented in the same smug, pseudo-intellectual, self-righteous tone as always.

I'm sadly not surprised because she has been moving in a Christian publishing direction, and this is sort of expected if you do that. (As a Hungarian speaker, I've been seeing this play out endlessly in Hungary - now it's coming to the US.) But this was not great to come back to after Shabbat :(
