Heard of the double empathy theory? It explains what it's like to be autistic in a non-autistic world; constantly misunderstood, told you're less-than, that you are the problem and need to change. Instead, double empathy is about us both understanding each other and adapting. #ActuallyAutistic

Disabled people are not acceptable casualties. Not during natural disasters. Not during a pandemic. Not during climate collapse. Not for profit. Not for optics. Not at protests. Not at school. Not for election goals. Not for personal comfort. There is no justice without disability justice.

Great article talking about the history of scientific research into autism & how, previously, some researchers caused harm to autistic people by suggesting autists have no empathy & that their behaviour is sometimes alien. Fortunately, these highly damaging narratives are changing. #ActuallyAutistic

Let's talk about Disability Tax: a thread. What's this? It's a phrase I use to describe the extra hurdles disabled people/people with disabilities have to jump through just to get on in the world. Examples: 1. Asking disabled people only to be the changemakers to overcome these barriers
