One of the interesting things that happened once animals evolved was that they started to make holes in the sediment. This not only opened a new niche once they figured out how to dig but also changed how some elements (e.g., sulfur) exchanged with the water above. www.nature.com/articles/nge... 🧪⚒️

Well, Calcite lost, I'm going to need a day to get ready to support Rhodochrosite. Meanwhile, the rest of you can choose between Kyanite and Topaz on #MinCup24www.mineralcup.org/2024/vote/r3m4

It's not that I don't like Rhodochrosite; I do. But people, don't let that distract you from the goal tonight - a win for Calcite in this round of #MinCup24#TeamCalcitewww.mineralcup.org/2024/vote/r3m3

Personal milestone achieved! This is the first year my mean citations-per-day has crossed to be greater than one (i.e., at least one of my papers was cited on every given day, on average). Now - to one-up that! #AcademicSky#SmallVictories

September isn't over yet, and it's already 366 citations this year.

Don’t fall for this meat rock nonsense! Sure Rhodochrosite is pretty but vote calcite! Vote for calcite’s gargantuan role in art history - all of marble art and limestone sculpture, chalk drawing, pigment and extender. Vote calcite for fossils! Vote calcite for Viking navigation & birefringence!
