There’s parallels there for sure though their fates end up very differently

#PhallusThursday showcases the best the ancient world has to offer in apotropaic symbols and this one has it all! There is a phallus complete with its own genitalia, supported by the mano fica gesture. Surely no evil eye would get past this amulet 🧿

Description from the Met museum: “Bronze phallic amulet; Roman; 1st century CE. This amulet incorporates three different symbols: the phallus, male genitalia, and the mano fica (a rude hand gesture). All three were potent apotropaic devices intended to ward off the Evil Eye.”

Given the notoriously difficult challenge on population estimates and class, my recommendation is come up with a very interesting family story that connects your gens to some god. It could really sway your situation 😁
