If ONLY books & journals had some sort of unique no. that we could quote instead of an entire paragraph listing the location of the publisher, their inside leg measurement & what they had for lunch that day. We could call it an IBNS number. Something like that anyway

Am currently checking proofs & am losing the will to live. When did bibliographies get so detailed? And why? Is it really necessary to know who published East Anglian Archaeology vol. whatever & their address? It's not like it makes any difference to chasing the reference

Gorgeous remains of pigments on this 3rd c. BCE Greek terracotta figurine, probably representing Aphrodite (note the hole in her shoulder where a tiny Eros may have rested). Found on a small table in the Tomb of the Erotes, in Euboia, Eretria. 🏺 #MFABoston#polychromy 1/

A young woman wearing a high-belted tunic (chiton) and a mantle (himation) leans against a rectangular pillar with a block-like top and places one foot on its base. Her hair is arranged in a "melon-coiffure" or "corn rows", pulled back to a bun at the base of her skull. Loose locks fall from the bun onto her neck. The woman wears a large ring on her ring finger. A pin-hole in the top of the pillar and another on her shoulder indicate that another figure - presumably Eros - orginally was part of the group. Color is still brilliant on some parts of the figure: especially the flesh, the hair, the chiton, which is of intense pink, with a blue border. Missing: left forefinger, and three fingers of right hand. A crack runs down the right side.

A Neolithic human-shaped stela with a necklace and a belt, found in La Serre, Aveyron (France). The lines on the cheeks are interpreted as facial tattoos or scars. Dating 3000-2500 BC. In the late neolithic period several cultures living between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caucasus erected ...1/2

In preparing to move house, it's been interesting clearing the office of 25+ years worth of accumulated paperwork. Most of my photocopy library has gone in the recycling because it's nearly all on-line now. There's several big runs of journals now on-line too but can't bring myself to sell them!
