Weird doesn't convey power or respect; it says they are outsiders, not normal. It implies they are weak. â¨â¨ Republicans have long done a better job of weaponizing language and sound bites. It's nice to see Dems find a worthwhile attack of their own. 3/
Trump and Vance will hurt people but so long as they hurt the right people, it's fine. Weird though...people don't like weird and Trump/Vance and their ilk are really fucking weird. Creepy weird. 2/
I love that "weird" has been so successful. Trump, Vance, and others are a lot of things: racists, authoritarians, etc. But those are somehow not as objectionable, maybe because they often convey power. A lot of voters like them despite or because of those things. 1/
"Maybe youâd have a beer with Vance, but you probably wouldnât leave him alone with your pet or your child. He has the vibe of violation, the swagger of a sinister wretch, the air of a guy whoâs unironically said 'no means yes.' Some weirdos can be trusted. The same canât be said for creeps."
There's a reason people believe even the most deranged rumors about Trump and Vance
You know how people are worried about foreign investors buying up US farmland? There's a company that helps them do that! It's like Uber for buying US farmland. And who's one of its key investors, profiting off of every sale? J.D. Vance. www.businesswire.com/news/home/20...
What he's describing is not any sort of forensic duplication or sector-by-sector copy
I'm sure the tech billionaires throwing money towards Trump's campaign are unsure whether they will "be on the same page".
Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.
One thing that frustrates me about this conversation is Bouie is afaik a working class person, in an industry rife with layoffs and contraction.
