Man, I know it's not as juicy as the Eric Adams stuff, but the Lexington, MS police department (SHOUT OUT TO MY HOMIES IN HOLMES) is getting the results of a DOJ investigation released today and it's NUTS. Cops have fined the 1.5k people in town 1.7 million dollars. An average of $1,200 EACH.
People are saying "well, duh" on Reddit because the CNN headline is passing the crime off as discrimination rather than massive corruption with a discrimination floater
Just looked it up and holy shit. The Table of Contents is outrageous!
The police is just a jobs program that turns banditry into taxable income.
If you want to read a REAL reporter on this, not just some guy who got a press release, HAVE AT IT, FROM NICK JUDIN www.mississippifreepress.org/mississippi-...
There's a press release here, with a link to the report, which is 47 pages long and very dryly damning www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justi...
The Brookside, Alabama case from 2022 had fines of about 440 bucks per person. Same size town, got national reporting. Alabama passed some laws limiting fines/forfeitures, a ton of cops quit, and MANY of the charges were dropped.
What a racket
People often talk about how cops are violent, racist bullies, but we shouldn't forget that they're also thieves and robbers.
That's just a protection racket without the protection.
