On NRT: Government of deceit - norightturn.blogspot.com/2024/09/gove...
While right wing content creators position themselves as scrappy upstarts, leaning into anti-establishment and populist brand positioning, they frequently accept money from far right interest groups, extremist billionaires, and even foreign actors. open.substack.com/pub/taylorlo...
+ Inside a Russian influence operation, a 'Who TF Did I Marry' TV show, TikTok's alien invasion, and why Gen Zs love choking each other out
As a Central Hawkes Bay District Council ratepayer, I approve of this decision to stay on track to establish a Maori ward. No doubt there'll be ongoing noisy opposition to the idea from racists, local and outsiders. Probably also some millionaire-funded publicity to try to drive division & hatred.
The public meeting was packed with people from all walks of life, and ended in a rousing haka when the majority of councillors cast their vote in favour.
RT funding RW propagandists reminds me of Peter Shirtcliffe's anti-MMP campaigns & Jordan Williams' activism-for-hire to roll Rodney Hide as ACT party leader for dirty Don Brash. Money always influences politics. Rich listers from Graeme Hart to Nick Mowbray poured so much $$ into the 2023 election.
i'm not the one to do it but to the extent that they really did not know they were a russian influence operation (debatable) there's something to be written about conservative influencers clearly acculturated to the idea that some rich person will just give them free money with no profit expectation
It seems ironic (doesn't it?) that these right wing clichés (I'm not saying they're not influential) end up now being exposed as - in effect - spouting propaganda that suits the Putin/Kremlin line. We knew they were bad-faith operators, but jeez. Of course they deny it, claiming to be "victims".

Not directly related to Andrea Vance's article re ACT & David Seymour's dishonest campaign around the treaty, but I saw this re Covid inquiry: "Van Velden has declined a request to be interviewed [...] A spokesperson from her office said there was a freeze on ACT MPs talking to Morning Report." wtfNot directly related to Andrea Vance's article re ACT & David Seymour's dishonest campaign around the treaty, but I saw this re Covid inquiry: "Van Velden has declined a request to be interviewed [...] A spokesperson from her office said there was a freeze on ACT MPs talking to Morning Report." wtf
