Thank you! This project will have impacts far beyond its borders by enabling riparian buffer work throughout the valley and cleaning the river as it passes through the new wetlands. Avon needs a lot of help!
Ditching just Lower Thames Crossing alone would save £9 billion, stop 5.2 milion tonnes of CO2 emissions, and save 6.5 hectares of ancient woodland from being cut down. We should absolutely not be building any of these roads/expansions but definitely not this one.
Many of us have been trying to get RIS2 (45+ damaging polluting roads) scrapped for years, but were always drowned out by large organizations focused on stopping electric trains instead. Now the public is concerned about a "£22bn black hole" it might be our best chance ever to kill these roads off.
Campaign for Better Transport: “Spending £9bn on a road that can’t even carry a bus is utterly nonsensical and if approved by the transport secretary would completely undermine [our] net zero commitments. Building new roads doesn’t cut congestion" www.theguardian.com/world/2024/s...
Suggestion would allow government to divert money earmarked for new roads to rail and other public transport
Beavers are popping up all over England through a) small enclosures they rapidly outgrow, b) illegal releases by activists fed up with inertia. We have a licencing scheme set up by the government but they refuse to issue any licenses, so hands are being forced and its not the best outcome.
“Recent figures suggest there was a 23% drop in casualties on 20mph and 30mph roads in Wales in the first three months of 2024.”
20mph speed limits work. In many cases we now need to go further in redesigning roads to increase compliance. "If the driver was travelling faster than 20mph, we would have been a much worse situation”
Despite praising the lower limit, Nanw's mother calls for more traffic calming measures.
BlueSky Ecology People: We have kilometers of hedgerow in need of funding, past present and future. If there was anywhere I know people would sponsor "a meter of hedgerow every month" it's on BlueSky. The more of you sponsor these hedgerows the more we plant. shop.protect.earth/products/wil...
Hedgerows are uniquely British natural alternatives for fencing on farms, that provide vital habitats and food sources for wildlife, helping to strengthen biodiversity and promote sustainable farming ...
Yeah we just don’t have a clue how it keeps happening. 🙃
I cycled through the alps in winter with record breaking rainfall and floods after losing my waterproof jacket but people who act like it’s impossible to cycle to work when it’s vaguely damp outside are still the wettest people alive.
Today the Welsh government has announced that it supports moving towards the managed reintroduction of beavers in Wales. 🥳 England next… right? https://buff.ly/3TJrgog
Welsh Government supports the managed re-introduction of European beaver in Wales.
We’re nearly at £9,000 but this crowdfunder has started to lose steam after a lack of interest in the local press. With record rainfall and flooding across the U.K. there’s never been a better time for critical wetland and wet woodland creation. Please share! www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/reforestat...
