It's okay to be appalled at the political hypocrisy. Don't shelve your integrity or character for anyone, ever. Things don't get better by following the status quo. Things don't get better by agreeing to do the wrong thing with the promise of doing the right thing in the future.
Liberalism is overcomplicating simple concepts, but unfortunately, at least a lot of “online leftism,” anyway, is vastly oversimplifying complex issues, usually completely disregarding disabled people.

Having to deal w/ your trauma symptoms alone, over time, becomes its own complex traumatic stressor. Lacking the words to express what you're going through or an empathic witness to express it to is a special kind of hell.
Evacuating requires transportation. A car, or functioning, accessible pubic transportation to safe evacuation sites. The States lack that infrastructure in so many places. The poor, elderly, and disabled are at a keen disadvantage here.
