“Acute malnutrition rates there among children under 5 have surged from 1% before the war to 30% five months later, the USAID official said. The official called it the fastest such climb in hunger in recent history, more than in grave conflicts and food shortages in Somalia or South Sudan.”

The students being clubbed, teargassed, pepper-sprayed, and dragged on the pavement are doing what their conscience tells them they must. As encampments are violently raided in the US, bombs are dropping on Rafah— a city of refugees densely packed with well over a million people.

I left a memorial on my instagram that doesn't really work here, but I'm mourning my extraordinarily impactful teacher Helen Vendler today and wanted to share this from Rita Dove since I hadn't seen it circulating here.

the text of a deathbed exchange between Helen Vendler and Rita Dove. Bluesky keeps deleting my attempts to transcribe it but it essentially is an apology full of admiration from Vendler and a warm response from Dove in the context of Vendler's wild, harmful review of c. 2011--incredibly moving exchange between old friends

She has demonstrated flagrant disregard of shared governance in her acceptance of partisan charges that anti-war demonstrators are violent and antisemitic and in her unilateral and wild

the kiddo learned the "too slow" high-five maneuver, which reminded me of the love story behind the photos illustrating it on wikipedia: www.inverse.com/input/cultur...

Asna Tabassum's response is superb. It is no wonder she was chosen as valedictorian. It is a great shame she will not be able to deliver the speech that for centuries has been the hallmark of that achievement. www.cair.com/wp-content/u...
