I don’t know about your sister, but I would find it enjoyable to be more oriented to where I’m going. BTW, I just met someone who did a cruise like the one you’re doing and they loved it. (I live at one of the Maine stops and I didn’t realize that was a route the ships were taking.)
I find this very reassuring, especially since all that "not working" has resulted in a multi-decade writing career. Exactly the kind of failure I covet.

This minute marvel is a treehopper! (Enchenopa latipes?) I never heard of them before. I watched little bugs hang out on our goldenrod for weeks looking like thorns and never thought maybe that was the point. Until my Larry said as much. Think evolution, Priscilla, think evolution. #MyWildWorld
