I don't understand the stuff I'm reading about the "vibes" election this time. Since when have USian elections NOT been about "vibes." I've been subjected to 35 years of "Would You Have a Beer with X candidate" articles and "analyses."

"Would You Have A Beer With X Candidate" certainly has historical precedent. The earliest US elections involved the candidates trying to sway voters by giving out free food and booze at the polling stations.

Also the academics who study election motivations have been pointing out for decades that people largely don't vote on policy or even have coherent policy preferences or ones that align with candidate stated platforms! It's vibes in the scientific data we have!

Of course, Obama got the same criticism, for SOME reason.

Before trump 2020, Presidential Election Campaigns would at least go through the motions of having consistent and reality based policy positions and Party Platforms. Now, Republicans don’t bother and Democrats don’t go into the wonky weeds like they used to. That’s what vibes means to me.
