That's fair, though in most cases activists have only escalated to whatever they're doing after years of trying, or seeing tried, pretty much everything else, to little or no effect. I've yet to see a "they should do x instead", where x hasn't already been done.
You don't need to explain anything to me.
That's nonsense. Literally by growing they are taking carbon out of the atmosphere and turning it into wood.
Dappled light through trees is my favourite. 💚
Techbros: How about instead of trees, we did a thing that confers exactly zero of their dozens of co-benefits? VC: DUUUUUUUUDE
How is that CO2 stored long term? It's not being used to create wood that can lock it up for 100+ years. That thing also needs constant energy and regular repairs to run. And doesn't do anything to help with the biodiversity crisis, that even the smallest patch of naturally growing plants could do.
Mass movement civil disobedience is the only way we'll get there. But that also requires a shift to regenerative cultures where we take time to rest and take care of ourselves, each other, and the environment around us. #EcoSocialism
Rainy and windy outside so I'm having a quiet #SocialistSunday indoors, to rest and recharge. Campaigning for a rapid but fair and just transition to an equitable sustainable future with genuine participatory and deliberative democracy will continue another day.
👏 “A lot of nature conservation is a long game. You plant a tree, you're not going to in your lifetime see that it reached its full potential. But within three months of that river being re-wiggled the salmon were spawning in that one kilometre stretch for the first time in over 150 years”
For centuries meandering rivers have been straightened – but experts say restoring their natural bends and curves can prevent flooding and create healthy habitats for wildlife.
