It definitely makes sense, and there's a ton of mirror based folklore existing separately from vampires, I wouldn't be surprised if that was a big influence on Dumas/Stoker including it.
This is sort of a backwards explanation - it doesn't show up in either Dracula (which popularized the idea) or in Dumas's The Pale Lady (the earliest origin we have for the idea, where the vampire also notably doesn't have a shadow). It's a good explanation, but isn't necessarily the origin of it.
