America does have a problem of inappropriately subsidizing properties in high-risk areas, but that's a comparatively minor problem next to the increasing risks to everything everywhere due to climate change—which we also subsidize.

Also, North Carolina is not a democracy thanks to extreme gerrymandering that lets Republicans win big majorities with a minority of the vote. If North Carolina had fair maps in 2018 when Democrats won the most votes, they could have gained full control over state govt & passed climate protections
correlating marriage and kids with happiness without mentioning that the richer you are the more likely you are to be married and have kids is... a choice. also, older people are more likely to be married and happiness increases with age.
