And I just totally inserted myself into a conversation with an unrelated anecdote. Look at me.

I thought it was a standard American pet, like a monkey.

If we want to find a Japanese scholar with a common female name, but we only have the English transliteration, what next? How do we find this person?

Nothing says "end of the semester, no memory to give any effs" than just leaving your entire purse and wallet at home.

Your institution (department/university) probably does not love you, and that's not its role. Instead of demanding they make political statements you agree with, insist on the freedom to make your own statements without repercussion. Academic freedom is the gift that keeps on giving

Thank you!!! I’m writing a paper on post 3.11 literature, haunting and Ozeki. I wanted to incorporate “Finger Bone” but wouldn’t have time to read it in Japanese (slower reader). I didn’t know it was in translation!

I'm not sure if my posts gain much attention, but if anyone is reading: what Japanese literary magazines do you follow or do you recommend? I know the usual suspects, but I am trying to whittle down the back issues in my Amazon JP cart. (And unfortunately, my institution does not subscribe to any.)
