I've been having too much fun playing Hellslave, the art, music, combat, everything is just soooo good. You just can't beat the creativity of a solid indie these days - I love seeing people's visions come to life.
_downnod_ "Okay then." Fargo spoofed it but it's the appropriate response to every situation where a comment is socially required but there's no more obvious competitor. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EX9...
Ok thenI do not own any right to this segment. enjoy
I'm not super sure how to navigate this tbh, especially with people who aren't already my besties. Any suggestions on socially acceptable ways to frame an offer to help with cleaning, for example?
As a result my usual offer is the more socially acceptable, "I'll make you a meal or pick up some groceries." (Or childcare for a few hours, if applicable.) "And let me know if there's anything else." But I've had people get really insulted when I've offered to mow the lawn or clean.
US culture (at least the middle class WASP aligned parts I'm generally around) emphasizes individual responsibility! Self-reliance! etc. so much that it's a huge faux pas to suggest someone is struggling to do basic life maintenance.
As someone who has navigated this from the "offering-help" side a few times there's a weird dynamic where it can feel like offering to do the wrong thing is insulting insofar as it suggests the person is unable to handle X themselves.
Caramelized onions today with hot pepper flakes and pineapple juice. Pretty sure the Stephens household just found a new savory staple for putting on everything.
My parents are visiting and Jimmy is playing ratm's "Bullet in the Head" while showering for dinner. Is this civil disobedience? (he gets along fine with the in-laws, I'm just amused)
I use one of these since I travel a lot! (escapees.com/mail-service/). You choose to discard junk mail and they'll scan anything "real" - you can then get it forwarded as needed. It's a bit pricy but I haven't had any issues. They have different "tiers" for sorting detail, B works great for me.
Honestly I feel like Americans complain soooo much even about the places that are medium-difficult to move to. "What do you mean I have to live here a few years and learn the language?!! the horror!!" (which feels like... table stakes for becoming a resident citizen? idk!)
