Thread. Relatedly, the funny thing about posts that purport to offer an "uncomfortable truth" to the reader is that usually the uncomfortable truth the reader actually gleans from it is that the writer is a bigot
And the "truths" tend to make the posters feel _very_ comfortable.
I've noticed that when social media posts start with "unpopular opinion", the opinions expressed usually justify a mean-spirited attitude, and are in fact quite popular within a certain crowd.
Generally, sure, though the most recent "uncomfortable truth" post I read in full was a long-form essay from an atheist friend on how in the 1800s the people who were right on race were right for religious reasons, and the "scientific" approach is now recognized as having been horribly racist.
I expect they're the sort of people who hate to break my bubble, to rain on my parade, to pee in my Cheerios, to burst my pretty balloon and take the moon away, before breathlessly pushing to the front of the imaginary line to do it before someone else can.
