As I was about to step out the door to head for Capclave, an email arrived letting me know I’d sold another story. My seventh of the year! Or maybe my eighth. And how wonderful it is to be unable to remember that number exactly! Details to follow once the contract is signed.
Because I'll be around some of you at Capclave today, I did as I've done for the past 4+ years whenever I'm going to be around any of you — tested to make sure I'm not wandering about asymptomatic. And since I appear to be of no threat at the moment — off I go!
Yes! Though I imagine we’ll both be on our respective panels my entire time there!
Home once again, I thought I should remind you that though I missed Capclave due to a family obligation — though to witness two hearts joined together as one was a privilege, not an obligation — I'll be in attendance for three program items tomorrow, and hope to see you at one or all of them.
Since I don’t know whether last night’s two lovely brides wanted to have their wedding reception plastered across social media, I didn’t post any photos, but I will share the song one bride danced to with her mom which brought on cheers — “Happy Marriage” from Sailor Moon. youtu.be/dqHyvsgcEoM

As if I wasn’t sufficiently gobsmacked before — I’m a co-Guest of Honor with Joyce Carol Oates! (And here’s a factoid — I haven’t seen her since the night in 2004 she and Stephen King and George Saunders and me were up for a Bram Stoker Award in Short Fiction and we all lost to Gary A. Braunbeck.)
What’s for lunch in NYC before we head over to tonight’s wedding reception? A slice of Hummingbird Cake from Magnolia Bakery! It’s filled with bananas, pineapple, and pecans, and slathered with cream cheese icing. That should hold me, I think.
Scribbled out a few more pages on the new story while training to the wedding reception, and came to the realization the best way to tell this tale is chronologically, rather than through alternating the present with flashbacks. Which I believe solves the main story problem I needed to crack. Whew!
