Beautiful still clear autumn morning on the local patch at Aston's Eyot this morning topped off with the first Redwing of the autumn which came in from high to the east and dropped into the top of a Poplar #UKBirding
Popped into Farmoor - nice to find the first Rock Pipit of the autumn along the causeway. Subtle but distinctive birds - regular on passage at this site in early spring and autumn, but very few records anywhere else nearby (most of the ebird pins elsewhere are single records) #UKbirding
Exploratory movements by young birds before breeding are are normal behaviour. What’s unusual is seeing tropical species this far north but there does seem to be increasing evidence of warm water species of birds (& fish) occurring further north in recent years perhaps linked to sea warming?
I think there’s been one summering around the Danish coast - not sure if same one.
An epic few days birding Doñana NP, Tarifa and its surrounds. Crazy numbers of birds in the NP but missed the best of the migration spectacles. Caught up with most of the Iberian specialities, although surprised to miss the Woodpecker. eBird trip report here - ebird.org/tripreport/2...#birding
Ah - quite possibly so; it’s a very international place in the autumn. The commentary is a classic bit of Swenglish. Rather in awe of ability to video passing seabirds - apparently this done with Swarovski BTX
Actually Swedish birders 😉 - I think Gannet is a pretty good bird here too
And I suspect it is 'little' things like that that help to foster the alumni support of US Universities...
Epic video of 1st sum Brown Booby passing Falsterbo in Sweden today - wish I’d been there! Apart from the super-instructive impression of jizz - really looks quite skua/Shearwater like, you don’t need to know Swedish to appreciate the excitement as the ID becomes apparent!! youtu.be/2Iv9cDdr9b4?...
