It has more emphasis on the aesthetics of realism but not necessarily actual realism itself, and I wouldn't say its especially gritty either. As for the "newtype crap," I mean, I think that view is dumb in general but Shiro and Aina practically act like newtypes but without the pilot skills lol
I don't blame the show itself tbh its been good, I more blame the people that turned it into something it isn't because "grrr its not like that newtype crap its GRITTY and REALISTIC" which like, kinda but not really??
