First review of ‘Now is the Time to Know Everything’ comes from Michael T Fournier for Razorcake magazine. I am very grateful. Available from me, Good Press in Glasgow (from whom I pinched the photo of the book itself), Antiquated Future distro in Portland, OR. smoo.bigcartel.com/product/now-...

Review text 1: Now Is the Time to Know Everything is subtitled A Story about a Miscarriage, so readers know what they're getting into, at least nominally.
Thing is, though, that Simon's style is so well-suited for the subject matter that there's no real preparation a reader can undergo before diving in. A series of letters from a soldier to a sister back home during World War II convey both urgency and mundanity. Meanwhile, Simon talks to his star-crossed first child, reflecting on how he met his wife, on genealogical finds uncovered in his own research, on the strange hopefulness of conceiving new life during the worst of COVID. Collage inserts itself into the narrative: instructions on dissecting frogs, and a very arms-length medical discussion of miscarriage causes and symptoms, so deeply clinical and wrung of emotion that the documents seem perverse-which they are. As is the soldier's obituary, a page after the final, bad-mood letter to his sister.
Review text part 2: As I read, I could see the way Simon was lining up his art, his archives, his prose, and despite having some understanding of how the narrative was arranged, the sum of the parts aligned more beautifully and impactful than I could have guessed. The ultimate realization that immersion in the past-and in futures imagined, yearned for, constructed of nothing but wishes is no way to live might sound simple, but in Now Is the Time to Know Everything it's much more messy and gut-wrenching and horrific and dusty. And beautiful, too so beautiful. —Michael T. Fournier
