The silmaril as a creation of feanor being renamed star of earendil with its obvious christological themes as a repurposing of germanic pre-christian world and customs into a syncretic but decidedly christian tradition
did you know that feanor making prophecies unknowingly in his rage and pride makes perfect sense because words like fate, german wut (fury), ancient irish fâith (prophet), gothic vôds (raving), etc all probably trace back to the exact same root VÂT-, which means to perceive
It's certainly german's drunk cousin
The division of elves and later men in distinct tribes, some of which are defined by where they ended their migration journey, imo suffers from now-outdated philology theories and from the application of inaccurate roman ethnography to germanic tribes
I think tirion's court should have a giant bnuuy population and some of those are maiar
and what does melkor do when he steals the silmarils huh
okay let's start. think about the fact that Feanor roamed aman up to the dark shores of the outer sea. add in that we know melkor roamed the void looking for the imperishable flame. then think about later, where instead of roaming, feanor locks himself up in a dark vault staring at the silmarils.
lol my god those are terrible. also it'd take nothing to tag as long post and let other people filter it that way but almost no one does
the aesthetics...
