The original is definitely a product of its time in many ways but it was mindblowing stuff for 1994. It was less than a year after Doom so seeing a game try to do that much with the FPS concept was crazy.
Not sure, I never tried the remaster. At least you can still get the original on GOG i think.
It's good! Stays faithful to the original's design while streamlining some of its more annoying elements, and having a more logical progression for weapons. Substantially better boss battles too.
